Why Do My Glasses Slip Down? Common Causes and How to Fix Them
Why do my glasses keep slipping down my nose?
There can be several reasons why your glasses slide down, and some are more obvious than others. Often, the problem isn't the glasses themselves — it's the fit.
At Got Frames, we believe that glasses should be comfortable, fit properly and look good. Just like clothing, one size and shape doesn't suit everyone.
1. The bridge doesn't fit your nose
One of the most common reasons glasses slip down is an incorrect bridge fit.
We all have different nose shapes and sizes, and the bridge of the frame needs to sit correctly on your nose. If the bridge profile isn't suitable for you, the glasses may slide down no matter how much they are adjusted.
2. The frame is too wide
If the frame is too wide for your face, it can move around and gradually slide down your nose.
A simple sign is being able to comfortably fit your fingers between the sides of the frame and your temples. If there is too much space, the frame may simply be too wide.
3. The temples are too long
The sides of your glasses (temples) also play an important role in keeping your frames in place.
If they are too long and cannot be adjusted sufficiently, your glasses may slide forward, particularly when you lean down or look towards the floor.
4. Your glasses are too small
Glasses that are too narrow can also cause fitting problems.
If the frame is too small, the temples may be splayed outwards, pushing the frame forwards rather than holding it securely in place. Temples that are too short can have a similar effect, particularly when you look down.
How can you stop your glasses from slipping?
The best solution is to get the frame properly assessed before you buy it.
A professional dispensing assessment can help determine whether the frame is the right size and shape for your face and whether it can be adjusted correctly. If the frame doesn't feel right when you try it on, don't assume you'll simply get used to it.
Take your time. You will probably wear your glasses every day for the next couple of years, so getting the fit right from the beginning is worth it.
Already have glasses that don't fit?
If you have a pair of glasses that constantly slips down your nose, bring them to Got Frames in Dún Laoghaire. We can assess the fit and see whether anything can be done to improve your comfort and how they sit.
Sometimes, a professional adjustment can make a big difference.
Good glasses should not only look good. They should fit properly too.
